College Captain's Report - July 2023
Celebrating Catholic Education Week

Last week was a very important week for Newman Catholic College. This was to pay tribute not only to the Catholic teachers all around Far North Queensland but also to the Catholic leaders. We took all of the College Captains and few other Year 7 & 8 students to a Mass celebrating Catholic Education Week. We had the opportunity to meet students from other schools and important figures in the Catholic Education industry such as Mr Dixon, Fr Dariusz and so many more.
As part of the Mass we finally received our College totem. We designed the totem back in Year 7 and it was an honour for the College to have an enlarged version where we can proudly display at our College. One of the best moments of the Mass was when the St Mary's College choir started and they lifted up the spirit of the cathedral and the choir not only completed the Mass, but it made it a remarkable day. Thank you, St Mary’s College, for hosting a very memorable day!

The opportunities that we are given are creative and fun and often give us chances to enhance great life schools. For example, debating club has been running for since last year, our Year 8 and Year 7 teams competing against other schools at St Augustine’s College, and one team even coming out with a win! Thanks, Ms Borowiecki, for your help and the opportunity! The College Netball team just won the first trophy for Newman Catholic College! What a proud moment for the College! Other proud moments, the Stage 2 construction with the building has been coming on great thanks to the builders and will be looking awesome for next year.
